TMO Jumps into the Flash Debate on MacJury

· by · TMO Appearances

The Mac Observer’s Jeff Gamet, Dave Hamilton and John F. Braun joined MacJury host Chuck Joiner to talk about Adobe, Apple and the debate surrounding the future of Flash in Part 1 of a special two-part podcast report.

Other MacJury panel members included author iGame Radio’s Omaha Sternberg, John Welch from Angry Mac Bastards, and Adobe’s Terry White.

In the first of a two-part discussion, the group takes on the Flash controversy from the ground up, starting with an understandable explanation of what Flash is and the many ways it has been deployed. The panel discussed the challenges Flash faces since Apple decided not to support it on their mobile devices, the difficulty of converting various projects (web sites, games, programs, video) from Flash to other delivery platforms, how that affects authors, developers and consumers, and whether this is just part of the evolution of computing. They also analyze the motives of all parties in this drama, why part of the problem is the mis-use and over-use of Flash as an tool, and the real-world implications of a Flash-less.
