Trans Intl Announces Internal Hard Drive Expansion Rack for Mac Pro

Trans Intl announced Wednesday a new product called DX4 that adds four new hard drive bays to your Mac Pro. Coupled with a PCIe host adapter, the DX4 can house any four 2.5" Solid State Drive (SSD) or hard drive

Features of the product:

  • Easy Installation.
  • Does not alter original system configuration.
  • Use any Fast 2.5" SSD or HDD.
  • Houses Four 2.5” SSD or HDD.
  • Ships with custom designed Power Cable, Second Generation Halogen Free Signal cables and manual.
  • SAS/SATA Hardware RAID host adapter available.
  • Requires Mac Pro with one open PCIe Slot.

The DX4 is priced starting at US$129 without drives or a PCIe card. You can include a RocketRAID 2310 card for $274.

This is a pretty darned clever idea, especially for those in the video or music business.

Ok, I can understand 4 SSD drives, but 4 2.5” HDD drives? They’re slower than regular drives already since they’re designed for laptops. I can’t see putting them into a Mac Pro as a RAID at all.

Great concept, but the cage/bracket itself is about $100 overpriced.  Bundled with a card for around $100 maybe..
