Transformers G1: Awakening - a role-playing game based on the 80s cartoon version of the venerable shape-changing toys, rather than director Michael Bay’s incoherent movies – reached the App Store on Thursday, leading a wave of new releases.
The new game (US$4.99) features 23 characters from the original series, along with 17 levels in story mode and the ability to fight for either side in Cybertron Arena mode. Characters can convert into vehicles to travel faster and switch back into robots when a battle begins.
In other App Store game news, PopCap Games announced that its Plants vs. Zombies title, based on the popular Mac/PC tower defense game, sold more than 300,000 copies during its first nine days, setting a new record. The company also noted that its Bejeweled 2 puzzle game is the first paid app to sell three million copies.
Finally, other new App Store games include: the card game Dungeon Solitaire; the classic RPGs Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II; the arcade title Fly Kiwi, Fly!; the time management game Hottie Hookups; and the traffic management game Car Control.
