Twitter Adds Photo Filters to iOS App

| Product News

Twitter released Twitter 5.2 for iPhone and iPad Tuesday, an update that adds eight filters directly to the in-app camera. The filters are being provided by Aviary, and allow users to use filter called Vignette, Black & White, Warm, Cool, Vintage, Cinematic, Happy, and Gritty.

The move pits Twitter in more direct contact with Instagram, which recently dropped its own support of Twitter Cards in early December. That loss meant that Instagram users tweeting directly from the Instagram app no longer embedded an image in their tweet, bur rather a link to the Instagram site.

Twitter's filters preserve the ability to share photos directly on Twitter, and leave Twitter in the driver's seat in the process.

The Twitter update is free and is available on the App Store now.

Looks like Twitter wants to get into the “let us help ruin your smartphone photos” game too.  Sad day for photographers everywhere.

@Substance - fortunately, the Twitter filters as nowhere near as ugly or destructive as those in some other similar apps.  Though my initial thoughts also ran along those lines too.

“No, Tommy, you’re not being arty when you make it look crap!”

Also, of note - the new filters, etc, are “only iPhone and Android for now”.  They don’t show up on iPad.  (Got that confirmed by someone on the development team.)  Can’t imagine why they never included that nugget in the update’s description to begin with.

Please don’t fool the people…filters are only for iPhone…that mean:no filters for iPad owners…
