Twitter Offers Rare Update of Twitter for Mac

| Product News

TwitterTwitter has released a rare update for Twitter for Mac, the company's client app for OS X. The company added support for Apple's Retina Display MacBook Pros, made some changes to Tweet Composer (including support for posting images to pic.twitter.com, as shown in the image below), updated the app's icons (as seen in the image on the left), added support for 14 new languages.

The update's patch notes:

Twitter for Mac 2.2 includes several improvements we think you will love:

  • Retina display support — Twitter is now more vibrant on the highest resolution Mac notebooks
  • Tweet composer — posting tweets is better than ever with a new design, and you can now post photos to pic.twitter.com
  • Updated icons — we’ve updated the app icon and overall iconography
  • 14 new languages — we’ve added support for Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Turkish

I’m confused. I thought Twitter was trying to push everyone to use their web site:

The bottom line: Twitter wants subscribers to use its Web interface, and nothing else. The company has been systematically shutting out developers and even kills off its own platform-native client apps.

A welcome upgrade, and about time. I had d/c’d all use of Twitter for the Mac after getting my RD MBP.

It may prove to be a useful app, now that Twitter will d/c TweetDeck, my favourite Mac Twitter client. Not always having uninterrupted internet access, it’s useful to have an app on one’s hard drive.
