Twitter Buying TweetDeck for $50M

· by · Rumor

Twitter is apparently snatching up TweetDeck for about US$50 million in a deal designed to block UberMedia from buying the Twitter client app. The deal is said to be in the final stages and could wrap up within the next ten days, according to unnamed sources TechCrunch spoke with.

TweetDeck for iPhoneTweetDeck may soon belong to Twitter

UberMedia had been close to signing a deal with TweetDeck earlier this year, which would’ve added the app to its collection that already includes EchoFon and UberTwitter (now UberSocial). Twitter was said to have come in with an unsolicited offer to block UberMedia’s purchase plans and keep the company from amassing too much control over the Twitter client app market.

TweetDeck is available for desktop computers, as well as the iPhone, iPad and Android-based smartphones.

Twitter and TweetDeck have not commented on the buyout rumor.
