Twitter for iPhone is the de facto replacement for Tweetie, which was purchased from the original developer, Atebits, by Twitter in April. Loren Brichter, the founder and lead developer of Atebits, announced at that time that he was joining Twitter’s mobile apps team along with Tweetie.

Twitter for iPhone was released on Wednesday, but at that time users were not actually able to download it.
