Twitter Prepping Photo Sharing Service

· by · News

The microblogging service Twitter is apparently ready to launch its own online photo sharing service that competes with offerings like Twitpic, Flickr and Yfrog. Unnamed sources claim company is set to make an official announcement during a presentation this Wednesday at the D9 conference, according to AllThingsD.

Twitter cameraComing soon: Twitter photo sharing

Twitter’s photo sharing service will presumably fit tightly with its own client apps both for uploading and viewing images. The company isn’t, however, sharing any details ahead of the official announcement.

A Twitter-owned photo sharing service could cause concern for the companies that already offer similar tools. The company recently made it clear that it isn’t interested in third parties developing their own Twitter client apps since it offers its own apps, so it’s possible a similar edict could come down for photo sharing products, too.

Twitter hasn’t made a public statement about its photo sharing service, so for now the feature should be treated as a plausible rumor.
