Twitter Scoops Up TweetDeck for $40 Million

· by · News

Twitter has apparently shelled out about US$40 million in cash and stock for TweetDeck, adding another Twitter client app to its stable. Unnamed sources close to the deal claim the papers were signed on Monday, although neither company is talking yet, according to CNN Money.

Twitter Buys TweetDeckSources claim Twitter now owns TweetDeck

TweetDeck is a Twitter client app for the Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and Chrome Web browser.

UberMedia had been rumored to be considering purchasing TweetDeck earlier this year, but never landed a deal. Twitter was reported to be in talks with TweetDeck, too, in May.

There isn’t any word on Twitter’s plans for TweetDeck. The company may have made the purchase to block UberMedia from snatching up yet another Twitter client app, or the microblogging service may plan to use TweetDeck features as part of its own service or client apps.

Twitter and TweetDeck have not commented on the report.
