The online music video service Vevo could show up on Apple TV as early as this week, giving watchers a taste of what MTV used to be. Word of an Apple TV-specific Vevo app surfaced earlier this month, but now the Wall Street Journal is on board with its sources saying it's coming soon.
Vevo runs music videos, much like MTV did years ago before it became a game show and reality TV channel. The deal with Apple includes music from Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group.
Currently Vevo content is available through YouTube and the company's own website. Adding Apple TV to its mix will expand its potential viewer base and is a step towards launching its own cable television channel, which is something Vevo hasn't been able to manage yet.
The WSJ sources also said that Vevo signed a deal with Samsung to bring its content to the company's Internet connected televisions in the coming weeks. Assuming the Vevo channel is launching this week, it will most likely just appear on Apple TV owner's screens much like other channels have shown up without fanfare or warning.
