TMO Artist's Rendering of the Verdict

The trial was a do-over for Apple after an appeals court threw out an earlier judgement against Apple for the same patents. The do-over didn't help, however, as the East Texas court once against found in favor of VirnetX, a non-practicing entity.

The jury awarded $334.9 million for violation of two patents in past versions of iOS for VPN on Demand, as noted by Ars Technica. This was the do-over part of the trial, but the jury awarded another $290.7 million for violation of two other patents in iMessage and FaceTime in newer version of iOS and OS X.

In a statement, lawyers for VirnetX said, "We are thankful for the jurors' hard work and attention in this case, and for reaching a just verdict. The jury saw what we have been saying all along: Apple has been infringing VirnetX's patented technology for years."
