Western Digital Introduces First Portable Thunderbolt Powered Dual Drive Solution

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Western Digital introduced My Passport Pro, the first portable, Thunderbolt powered dual drive solution, at this week’s Macworld/iWorld Conference.  Kristy DeMarco, Sr. Manager, gave us details on this product.

WD My Passport Pro
Western Digital My Passport Pro

The unit offers many features which mobile professionals, who need performance and portability, will appreciate. The first is that you don’t need a bulky power cord or power adapter, with the Thunderbolt port providing both power and data transfer.  Being a dual drive solution, the unit can be configured with either RAID 0 (data striping) which provides maximum storage, or RAID 1 (mirroring) which provides data redundancy. The performance of the drive is up to 233 MBps (megabytes/sec). Western Digital includes software to help configure RAID and other drive settings. The My Passport Pro is also compatible with Apple’s Time Machine.

My Passport Pro is available now at Apple and major consumer retailers in a 2 TB capacity for $299.99, and a 4 TB capacity for $429.99.
