YouTube Adding 1080p Video Support
November 13th, 2009 at 11:35 AM - News by Jeff Gamet
YouTube is bumping up its maximum HD video resolution from 720p to 1080p. Support for 1080p videos is coming next, according to a Thursday post on the YouTube blog.
"We're excited to say that support for watching 1080p HD videos in full resolution is on its way. Starting next week, YouTube's HD mode will add support for viewing videos in 720p or 1080p, depending on the resolution of the original source, up from our maximum output of 720p today," said YouTube Software Engineer Billy Biggs.
YouTube is in the process of re-encoding 1080p that have been already uploaded so they can be viewed at full resolution once the upgrade is completed.

Software Engineer Billy Biggs should be aware that Flash per se will consume all available CPU cycles, leaving none to process the HD video itself.
I wonder if Billy can figure out what to do…
Maybe he’ll dump Flash at long last.
…Or he’ll tell everyone to install ClickToFlash, which enables you to view the same HD YouTube video in QuickTime format and use 5% of your cpu
Good God, that’s going to take an eternity to load.
