This wasn't the greatest Apple briefing I've had. Apple didn't make anyone available to answer iPhone or iTunes Store questions, plus I didn't have the usual 45 minutes or so. Instead, I focused on Time Capsule and the MacBook Air. Here are some selected highlights.

First off, you need to understand that when Steve takes the stage on Tuesday, he's not there to talk to us, i.e., you folks and me, i.e., the extended and interbreeding family of longtime Mac users. His true function is to speak to us, i.e., me and other folks who didn't have to wait in line to get in, i.e., the insular and never-been-kissed corps of media and analysts. This understanding tends to act as a useful lens on what Steve is saying.

Okey-doke...so it is indeed a video-studly iPod. Inneresting. I don't have mine yet -- and I haven't even had my Apple briefing -- so I can't say yet whether or not this is a Good Thing or a Bad Thing. See, where a video iPod is concerned I've always been worried about that Purple Cloud of Insanity.

Today's mail brought two goodies: a CD containing a piece of software that I am very much not supposed to have, and my press copy of Wil Wheaton's proto-memoir, Just A Geek
