Y’know, I’ve tried 3G and Wi-Fi and restarting my iPhone 4 and at the end of the day, the TMO forums really do seem a lot “slower” than before. Don’t get me started on Fast Reply, because it’s anything but fast. Typing is frequently unacceptably slow (type a word, a few seconds later all the keys you typed pop up at once), and trying to zoom out when MobileSafari unhelpfully “corrects” the zoom for you, which slows things down - the lack of response is just terrible.

Long story short, I can’t really do anything other than browse the forums on my iPhone, especially if I have other apps in the “background”.

iPhone 4 owners, what’s your experience?

Greetings, all—

As some of you have noted, there have been a few TMO slowdowns/outages lately, and today we installed a caching mechanism that should alleviate all of these types of outages.

Caches are funny beasts, though, and there are many things (like the forum contents for logged-in users) that one would NOT want cached. While we believe we’ve caught and configured for all of those obvious exceptions, Murphy’s Law dictates that we missed something.

So please be a little (more?) vocal about this stuff here over the next few days as we ensure that we’ve got things tweaked just perfectly for you.

Thanks!

Is there any posibility of enabling Tapatalk Forum App on the Mac Observer? For those unfamiliar with Tapatalk Forum, it is a awesome app available for the iphone only at this time.

It makes reading mutiple blog subscriptions all within the touch of a finger. You subscribe to various forums. then you log in with tapatalk. You can view, post replies and much much more.

It makes reading the forum and replying a breeze with an iphone on the go.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tapatalk-forum-app/id307880732?mt=8

This sure would be a nice feature. I’ve been using Tapatalk for a while and love it.

Best Regards.

Hey Adam,

Good to see that the text cutoff situation appears to be fixed now.

But what about speed?

I swear, Wi-Fi helps a _little_ but these forums are still way, WAY slower than they used to be before that major forum update deal some months back. Is there anything that can be done about that via HTML coding or is it just a problem with the forum software?

Just FYI, I also noticed that when my _iMac_ (a quad-core, mind you) gets a little under load (nowhere close to 200% CPU) and a little close to its RAM ceiling (maybe over half the free memory), I can actually see typing slowdown! I mean sure, Flash video might not be helping (even if the video isn’t playing at the time), but…it’s like…telnet from the dialup years!

Anyway, just thought I’d let you know. If there’s any way to improve the speed (and lower the battery consumption) for mobile users, that would help a lot. Thanks.

Hi,

I was surprised to see the changes to the TMO home page. Mostly, it is my issue of “who moved my cheese” but I have a request, please consider going back to the former format where you did not lead with 3 stories and add pictures.

Personally, I prefer seeing the list of stories and being able to choose what I read, that was what made TMO different and better than other sites. My issue with the change is now the home page loads up and I have to scroll down through the 3 stories you are leading with in order to get to what I want.

In the long run, it’s not that hard to scroll down; however, my point is, let the readers choose what is relevant to them and return to the simple list of stories without the 3 lead in stories.

Thanks for your consideration.
