Mac RPG fans rejoice. Bioware has released a Tech Demo of the upcoming Mac port of NeverWinter Nights. NWN is a very nice RPG. The 210 MB demo can be pulled of versiontracker, macgamefiles.com or through a Bittorrent link. Keep in mind it’s a pre-release demo and contains bugs.

I don’t have the hardware for it, but I know at least one modem user trying to download it.  Might be done in another 2 days.  bug eyed

I tried it last night. I’ve never been really big on the role-playing type games but it looks pretty fun.  I can see how it could be addicting. smile

On an unrelated note, it was my first time trying BitTorrent.  I left the window open after it finished and served more than 1 GB worth of the demo to other users.  Pretty cool concept.

I like it, but I can’t decide if I’m going to buy this one or Dungeon Siege. The wife won’t let me do both (what with the $22,000 house remodel and me buying a new PB I guess I can’t blame her).

The graphics were ok and the game played well on my g4/533. I’ve never played AD&D III rules so I had to get a handle on that. The demo was easy but I did, after some trying, manage to get myself killed. big grin

So, what to do? Buy DS now or wait for NWN? Unfortunatly there’s no demo for DS and I hate buying games that I can’t demo first. Anyone get Dungeon Siege yet?

I’ve played a bit of Dungeon Siege on my brother’s PC.  You start out with a guy with no real skills, but he improves only in the skills he uses.  Melee fighting increases fighting skill and Strength slowly, ranged attacks increase archery skill and Dexterity, and so forth.  The viewpoint is from above with camera controls, like Myth, and there’s graphic niceties like arrows sticking out of monsters that you’ve shot, and you can take the weapons of every monster you kill, if you can carry them all.  You can even hire a mule in town for extra carrying capacity, and in desperate fights he’ll even kick back at the monsters if he can’t get clear.

It does get hard, though, and it’s pretty linear in that there’s only one path for you to choose from, most of the time.  Though I’ve come to realize after getting IWD that that’s also true of most Bioware titles.
