D’oh! that Jedi mind trick! I wasn’t thinking (what I get for posting as taking a break from an all-nighter). It definitely could be added in—that mock-up was just a down n’ dirty Photoshop hack job For Entertainment Purposes Only.

(of course the mind-trick did work exactly as prescribed after my first visit here icon_smile.gif )

And it was good, Rob.  I was just teasing about the slogan.  We’re fond of it, so to say.

Note too that I misquoted it.

It’s

You’ll get your Mac news here from now on…

not

You will get your Mac news here from now on…

In any event, I think your suggestion is a good one.

It will be changed ASAP (which means sometime this week), and I really appreciate the note.  icon_smile.gif

I hate bringing this up every couple of months, but…  icon_wink.gif

Now, not only does the sidebar text link to the forums in article pages go to the old “phorum,” but the top menu bar in the “view article comments” page doesn’t link to anything (it does work properly on the page initially displaying the article itself).

Sorry to be a pain—in the interest of openness and fairness, feel free to bitch about the project that’s given me many a sleepless night (including last night) the past six months, which just went live online this week. icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, I told Bryan about that missing link in the reading comments page aaages ago in AIM, or an e-mail, or something.  Come on, slacker. icon_smile.gif

and toast, k12today looks ex.cel.lent! icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, my suggestion:

I noticed, in the wake of the iPod announcement, that heaps of threads sprouted with pretty much the same purpose (Can I use it as a such-and-such? Can I use it as a this-and-that?).  It was a little irritating reading several threads with almost precisely the same conversations in them.  I’m not suggesting you guys turn into posting Nazis, but it might be a decent plan occasionally to preempt the onslaught by creating threads for those purposes before the fact, and make sure the discussions stick to those.

Fortunately, phpBB 2.0 allows for topic splitting and topic merging.  That means we can move individual posts and combine threads.  That will help with this in the future.

From the sounds of it, version 2.0 is going to have a lot of positive changes.  Any idea of a possible timeframe as to its release/the time it’s installed here?

The phpBB team is about to release the second public beta of version 2.0. They are notoriously tight lipped about NOT offering timetables, but it seems as if they are shooting for sometime in the next 6-8 weeks for the final release.  That could be completely wrong…

I have considered having TMO use the 2nd public beta of version 2.0, but the issue there is the time it would take to work on it, and the time of reinstalling it when it is updated.  All are issues…

I see no reason to use a beta.  Why upgrade to something that may be buggy, regardless of new features.  I say you wait it out until the final version is released.

You’ve GOT to show me how to do this.
