Wired News is reporting that the Big Mac G5 supercluster has increased its efficiency and moved up to 3rd in the supercomputer rankings.  The machine can now pull 9.55 teraflops and Varadarajan hopes to squeaze out an extra 10% speed boost soon.

He will also upgrade the machine to Panther in the next few weeks.  I wonder if this will have any effect on the machines speed?

I’ve moved this topic to the education forum where the Virginia Tech super computer story is being tracked smile

Discussions on the pending #3 world ranking in continuing in this education forum topic . As [SOB]Valen points out, 9.55 teraflops is an amazing performance for a super computer cluster made from consumer available, off-the-shelf computers!
