Now, that 10.1 is a reality (and now that Microsoft will be starting its $500 billion dollar advertising blitz), let’s hope that Apple is gearing the mother of all ad blitzes for OS X.
I posted one is another forum, but here is the qoute:
I always wanted Apple to run ads that played off of the Windoze 95 “start me up” ads. It would have another Stones song “satisfaction”. Imgaine that all these PC users hitting their computers and throwing their hands up in frustration while “I can’t get no satisfaction” plays in the backround. It closes with a person sitting infront of a new iMac with the tag line “Pure Satisfaction”.

I’d like to see a commercial where people are actually using Mac OS X to accomplish every day things. Writing, surfing, e-mail, and some Superfast Quake 3. I do not want to see ads for Mac OS X that somehow try to convey a spirit or an abstract, I want real people doing real things with big smiles on their faces.
I have to agree with Bryan, but Apple shouldn’t go as far as they did with the iDVD commercial, cause in that commercial there was hardly any notice of the use of Macs or Apple. They should show the public OS X and what it can do. Solutions so to say, just as they do in the Apple Stores.
I think Apple should do a take-off of the old 3DFX ads. Basically, the first several seconds of the commercial should be spent touting the industrial strength UNIX, the built in Apache, the pre-emptive multitasking, etc, etc. Then there should be a statement like “And what are you going to do with it? Surf the internet, do your work, and play games with style and efficiency, the way you always have with Macintosh”. With Id’s permission, they could use the Return to Wolfenstein for some wicked fast game shots, then show Office X (since MS won’t advertise it). Also, this needs to be a series of ads that are similar but focus on different activities. I would also like to see an ad showing people using G4s for all sorts of high tech science stuff. Also, show the easy open case, it’s nearly 2 years old and it STILL is better than any PC I’ve ever seen.
I’d have a split screen showing two scenes….one a guy getting a delivery of CD-ROM from the postman (start stop watch), installing OS X (show stop watch time), show guy leaning back….smiling…..breaking into laughter…...... At the same time, do PC user getting CD from postman (start stop watch), after many minutes of installation show Windoze XP logo, show calling M$ for ‘activation’, show installing peripherals, calling for re-activation, jump ahead one year (still smiling Mac user), show frustrated PC user sending money for continued ‘support’, jump ahead a year show PC user sending money for continued ‘support’, etc., etc.
I guess after reading the posts so far, we can all rest easy knowing that none of you are in the advertising industry… (Hahaha.) No offense… haha.
Umm, actually, Apples commercials have been really good up to this point… I don’t see why you would want to make them bland, boring, and like everyone elses. Apples are different… Why shouldnt the commercials match… Apple = Style.
Show a picture of someone using Mac OS X on a board sitting on top of X’s logo. Show a picture of someone using XP getting hit hard by the NIMDA virus.
The scene shows a woman sitting down at her home office in front of a Mac first thing in the morning. She yawns, then looks at a long todo list on her screen. She starts mousing and typing. The view changes so that you only see her head and her elbows sticky out from behind an Apple 17” display. As you watch you see another pair of arms attack the keyboard, then another, then another. The scene flashes briefly onto the screen which shows several windows open, apps blazing, mail mailing, music playing. The screen changes again to show the womans face, she is smiling with satisfaction. Scene fades to white, the Apple logo appears and below it are the words, “Work different! Apple OS X.1.”
Not to take away from what you all have said—because there are some interesting ideas, to be sure—but I’ve found that a sudden drop in the level of aural and visual stimulation is a pretty good way to grab attention. I whipped up a silly little 15-second spot to demonstrate what I mean. (It’s too bad I don’t have a decent sized Apple logo or the correct font, but then again I’d rather not deal with Apple legal.)
