I swung by CompUSA and they were out of the full install boxes.  However, the rep there was burning 10.1 upgrade CDs like mad and handing them out to anyone who wanted them.

I think this’ll hold me until I get my order from the Apple Store. (With luck, about mid-week.)

How do I do that? I see nothing in the Dock control panel.

What exactly is a clean install?  Is that a format of the hard drive or what?

Yes, essentially. I did a clean install. Here’s my version.

I have three partitions. I erased the OS X partition (single-click on icon for X; go to the main menu and select Special—> Erase Disk). I then installed 10.9 onto the partition. Restarted and did the registration thing on X. I then went and installed 10.1 over that. I forgot to mention that backed up my documents and my favorite shareware (Drop Drawers, MacReporter, Snard, Prefling, etc.). and reinstalled that onto 10.1

(BTW, I deleted that double post you made).

Thanks, iBrotha!  Preciate that.  I don’t know if I want to do all that since my 10.1 install on my Powerbook is running really fast right now….....  icon_smile.gif

The dock consists of three PDF files (right.pdf, left.pdf and middle.pdf). I found three files that replaces those files with, basically, blank files. Ran by the Apple Store in the Northshore Mall in Peabody, MA to get my copy yesterday (haven’t installed it yet due to some poorly scheduled commitements, bot tonight is free!).  There was a good sized line, about 50’ which grew to about 75’ by the time I got into the store and shrunk to 25’ by the time I got out.

Although the store was much busier than the last time I visited, it wasn’t overwhelmingly crowded.  A good show of crowd control on Apple’s part!  Even after waiting in line for about ten minutes I was still able to enjoy my visit without having to force my way through a crushing crowd.

This is the only time that anyone has ever shook my hand as I grabbed a free copy of anything!  No sales pitch, just a “Thanks for visting the Apple Store today.”

I am so heartbroken. I went to CompUSA today in Orlando and the guy
(who was the Apple rep) was kinda rude. He told me that he was
getting 100 copies (they weren’t in yet) and that he already
had a list of at least 100 people plus (and this is the mind
boggling part) he has 30 machines IN THE STORE! that he needs them
for so he really only has 70! Excuse me? Sheesh you would think
Apple would just let them burn copies (or if they are letting them
than encourage it!) I am on a very tight budget and really can’t
spend $20 on an upgrade…hell spending the original $129 blew my
budgeting for about 2 months! ::sigh:: I know Comp supports Apple
but right now I truly hate them. Maybe I’ll sell my Apple stock
and use that money to buy my stupid 10.1! icon_frown.gif

Ok, I give up. I’ve looked for .pdf files and have nothing called left.pdf, etc. What am I missing?

UMDirector: You must have gone to the Altamonte Springs store. I heard the same line too. The South Orlando Store already had OS X.I on all of his machines and was showing us some nice features when I had to leave. I almost had a fit in the Altamonte Springs store. What he said made little sense to me. Just when I was set to argue my case he gave me a copy.

I caused confusion. I pointed you to my home page to see how it looks. Now, if you want me to, I can email you the new PDF files (it’s 8 kb). In order to add the new files, you have to boot into OS 9 (a tidbit I left out), in order to be able to see the .pdf files. Sorry about that.

Then, do the following:

1) Go to System/Library/CoreService/Dock.app

2) Control-Click on the Dock.app icon and select “Show Package Contents” from teh contextual menu

3) Dock.app turns into a folder; open the folder

4) In that folder, open the folder named Resources. This is where you will find right.pdf, middle.pdf and left.pdf.

5) drag and drop the files I will send to you.

6) boot back into OS X, and voila! Transparent Dock icon_smile.gif

Let me know if you want to send them to you. If enough people want, I may just upload them to my web site for easy download…

I just found an OS X AppleScript at Versiontracker that allows you to change the Dock so that it is totally transparent, with no borders (which is what the above-mentioned hack will do).

Oh, yeah. The link. Go here, to http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&db=macosx&id=11295/TransparentDock1.2.hqx
