Wal-Mart has announced the official opening of its online music store. At $.88 per song, the retailing giant desires to bring the low-price/high-volume paradigm to online music.

The store doesn’t support Macs or Linux-based PCs and requires WMP 9.

I don’t see this effort as a threat to Apple’s product plans and strategic goals. Just a retailing gians attempting to extend its reach into an emerging market. iPod users are essentially locked out of the service.

I guess it locks out their own Lindows-using customers, too.

[sarcasm]  how could this not be a huge success?  given that Walmart’s customer base is the digital savy bunch that they are.  [/sarcsm]

I’m surprised they haven’t partnered with a WWF branded music player.
