Microsoft Slammed By EU

This morning Microsoft was slammed with a more than $600 million fine fine and ordered to unbundle Windows Media Player from the operating system sold by the millions of units throughout the EU.

This is an unprecendented fine and the action by the EU stands in stark contrast to the anemic remedy to Microsoft’s abusive behavior in the US.

Is this decision good for Apple and for competition in the PC space? Will this decision have an impact on competition in the US?

It’s good that MS got punished, but I don’t think this will have any long term affect on their practices.  Since the court case took 5 years or so, that’s a big delay in punishment, and they can bankrupt a lot of competitors in a time frame like that.
