  I am happy to note that the “view” function now works for news story comments by Guests (In OS9, yadda yadda yadda). I’m not sure when this finally happened, (I kinda resigned myself to not reading those comments) but I suspect it’s a fairly recent development. So anyhow, thanks TMO.

  I am embarrassed to note that apparently what solved the above problem for me was the fact that I recently updated IE from version 5 to 5.1.
  In IE 5, the view function does not work ... in 5.1, it does.
  I had not had a problem with IE 5 until recently, so it didn’t occur to me that this was the problem…
  live and learn.
