For months now I’ve been carrying my “fortune-cookie fortune” in my wallet, and every now and again I will stumble upon it while looking for money that I hope to find hidden among the business cards, atm reciepts, and scrap pieces of paper.  After reading it again, my ambiguous fortune still makes me smile. It says, “You will show what you are capable of.”

So, with that, I interpret it to mean that I am capable of starting a thread to post your “fortune-cookie fortune” where you may try to interpret what it says, or here on the forum we can help interpret it for you. smile

Rember, after enjoying a delicious Chinese dinner, open your fortune-cookie, read it, and share it with us!

The last one I opened, which happened to be a week ago today, said;

“You have an overactive imagination.”

No fooling. It really said that. I couldn’t help but have a Stimpy voice in my head when reading it.

My last fortune cookie fortune—still in my wallet—reads:

The simplest anwer is to act.

I love that fortune. To me, it means that most any problems and/or difficulties can be overcome by being proactive. Likewise, goals can’t be achieved through wishing. I think it’s a terrific fortune.

BTW, has anyone here been in a group situation where everyone has to read their fortunes out loud…but tack on the phrase “in bed” at the end? I highly recommend it!

Fortune Cookies

I was travelling in Australia when I got a fortune cookie at a restaurant which said simply:

“You will inherit a large sum of money.”  big grin

My grandmother and my wife’s grandmother both died within 3 months of this leaving some money (although not a large amount!). frown

I’ve decided at my grandmothers funeral to avoid fortune cookies in future….

Maccers, I’m sorry to hear about your Grandmothers.  You have your reasons for avoiding fortune cookies, but maybe your next fortune would have atoned for your last one in positive way regarding your Grandmothers?  You know the Chinese are big on their beliefs in honoring their ancestors…

Ok KS, you naughty boy!!! evil grin

I’m laughing so hard I can barely refrain from farting! lol

My favorite fortune I ever received was:

“You will be happy be receipt of good news”

Yes, complete with those grammar mistakes. I had to save it. smile

Edit: I remember one a friend of mine got when we were out to dinner, it read: “You look happy and proud”. Well, what a nice fortune cookie!

I got one yesterday that said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”  Way to not make your own maxims, guys.

There are a few sites with some collections of strange/interesting fortune cookies. Here is   one ...looks pretty interesting.

Edit: after checking some of them out, I think   this one is one of the best I’ve ever seen. big grin

I’m thinking of starting a line of morbid fortune cookies. They would say things like “Duck” or “That wasn’t chicken you just ate”, or “Your son will steal $20 from your wallet for Yu-Gi-Oh cards”. Anyone like this idea?

Un-fortunate Cookies…

They may be useful as a gag, but I don’t think that a restaurant would build a clientele by offering morbid messages.

But hey!  Run with the idea if you think that it is worth it…

Ok, after yet another beheading in Iraq, I’m not sure what this fortune cookie is trying to tell me?

“We can learn from everyone, especially from our enemies.”

It’s great going to our favorite Chinese restaurant Fu-Lin, which means lucky gate or something like that.

After a very nice dinner and a very nice time with my family, I made sure to save the fortunes to share with everyone.

“You have firm convictions - stand strong behind them.”

“You are a practical person with your feet on the ground.”

“You will be successful in your career.”

“Smile often and see what happens.”  (I like that one smile )

“You will make a change for the better.”

Now let’s see if I can string them all together:
“You are a practical person with firm convictions who will be successful because making a change for the better will make you smile often.”  smile

Ok, this fortune has been in my wallet long enough!  It reads “You will soon discover how truly fortunate you really are.”

Why yes I am truly fortunate to be able to post my fortunes here. razz

It’s time for some more Chinese food…

... in bed!

The best one I ever got, and kept for the longest time in my wallet, said something like “You will have fulfillment in everything, from the simple to the sublime.” I wondered what could be better than that. I had to throw it away after jumping into a river with my wallet in my cutoffs.

I got one a couple of weeks ago which said something to the effect of “You will have a happy old age.”  This is somehow comforting, probably because I hit the big 5-0 tomorrow.
