Apple has announced a major executive reorganization and the creation of a new iPod division. It looks like the Mac maker is planiing for a more expansive operating model that includes major divisions outside its core Macintosh business.

IMHO, it’s much too early to tell exactly what this means for Apple and its customers, though I don’t see the immediate benefits in moving the seasoned head honcho of hardware engineering to work on just two products.  But hey, nothing wrong with shaking things up, bringing new people to the helm, etc.

If anything, this “iPod Division” is as clear an indication as any that Apple’s going to be doing some very eye-opening things with the world’s favorite MP3 players sometime in the future…
