Why doesn’t QT export the sound of an mpg?
I want to convert an mpg to a DV-Stream with QT Pro. it does export and all, but without sound! How do I get it to export sound as well???

you might have better luck with this in the Digital Imaging forum.

Can you export to any other formats and keep sound? what about just using a different codec in QT? I take it the .mpg file plays fine before hand?

Yup, the .mpg plays well. But I have no luck with different codecs as well. no sound anywhere.

*goes off to post the same in Didital Imaging*

this is what I posted in OS X Help, because I didn’t know where it fits. So, any idea anyone?

I have run into this problem myself a few times. icon_smile.gif

Some MPEG files I have no problem exporting the sound from. Others, I cannot seperate the sound track for nothing. I also cannot export to DV Stream or any other file type with sound while using Quicktime.

I believe it is in the way that the files are coded. That the people who originally encoded these files set up either a parameter that does not allow the sound to be transfered apart from the video, or not at all.

I have had limited success with Terran Cleaner 5 with some files. Toast 5 Titanium has handled some others to where I can export sound.

I think that this problem might just be fixed with the awaited update to MPEG-4 in Quicktime 5.1. (Hopefully it happens this time! icon_biggrin.gif )

Maybe someone else will have a little bit more info.

Is there a way to convert it with Final Cut Pro 2.0? It wants to render the .mpg, and that takes Eons, so I want to know b4 I do that icon_smile.gif

I have not tried any of my problem files with FCP 1 or 2.  icon_frown.gif Can’t help on that front.

I do know that after using Terran Cleaner and/or Toast 5, I can bring them into iMovie and FCP and do what I want with them.

I would give it a try. Let it render while you sleep. That is usually what i do. icon_biggrin.gif

Let us know what happens.
