To all of our gaming Observers:

Macworld is just around the corner, and I’ll be helping cover it with the rest of the TMO staff. As my specialty is games, I’m holding interviews with a slew of game-related companies, including Macsoft, Essential Reality, MacPlay, Connectix, ATI….

Here’s your chance to ask game companies that question you’ve always wanted the answer to! Post those questions below, or email them to me: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Ricky, if you talk to anybody from Nvidia, I’d like to hear about the chipset that will be in Microsoft’s X-box and when we will see it in a consumer card.
This will have everything to do with any connectix PS2 emulator in the future.

What’s the difference between a Mac and a PC? Macs are designed, PCs are assembled.

Heya Ricky, when you talk to the ATI people, see if they have anything to say about Radeon 2 for Mac.  That is, if they don’t talk about it before you talk to em. I’m really looking forward to getting a GeForce 3, but I know the Radeon 2 will be better, so I’m hoping for some info…

Well, I’ve got some answers for you. The “Radeon 2,” as you’ve called it, will be announced soon, meaning “before Fall.” They promised me it will be a high-end 3D card, meant to go head-to-head with the GeForce3.

As for VGS for PS2, the word on the street is that it isn’t feasible. Due to the terms of the now-settled Sony-Connectix lawsuit and other technical concerns, it seems prohibitively difficult to bring to market.

Hope that’s the info you were looking for!

So, then do you think that it will be released at MacWorld Paris?
That seems like the perfect time to me, although I wouldn’t mind if they released it sooner…
It’s so hard to decide between the damn GF3 and the Radeon2.
What do you think looks like the better buy?

Well, only time will tell. There is a tremendous display of smoke-and-mirrors in the graphics market: both NVIDIA and ATI have saturated the market with buzzwords, so it’s impossible to know which card can actually do more.

You’ll want to wait to see real benchmarks and screenshots. Also, niether card is fully worth the cost until software developers support the cards’ special feature sets. So you may also want to wait until your favorite developers have said which manufacturers they’re supporting.
