I don’t personally have anything that requires me to use OS 9 anymore. However, I’ve got about 8 or 9 “edutainment” titles that my 6 and 4 year olds use and I think only one or two of them works in Classic. This is disappointing and a major pain because either my wife or I have to restart in 9 to let the kids use the computer. Is it just me, or is Classic just fickle overall? What’s your experience? Is there anything I can do to help the situation? I’m about ready to find a used iMac just for the kids.

It depends on what you look at, obviously,
But even more it depends on the way that you see

One thing you might try is tweaking the version of 9 that you use for Classic. On my G4 I have a 9.2.2 install on one HD and a 9.1 install on the other. I use the 9.2.2 install for most uses of Classic, but for some games and such they will only launch if I use Classic with 9.1.

One unresolved issue with this setup is that I can’t get 9.1 to launch as Classic from my regular user account, I have to log into Root to use it.

Hope that helps.
