  Reuters reports Microsoft (MSFT) said on Tuesday it sees plenty of room for growth in the digital music player market as the co tries to dislodge AAPL’s dominant iPod with a device of its own. The digital music player market will eventually mushroom to hundreds of millions of units a year-up from a current rate of 30 to 40 mln units per year, said Bryan Lee, corporate VP of MSFT’s entertainment and devices division. MSFT plans to heavily promote the wireless capabilities on its new digital music player, Zune, in order to position the device as an alternative to the iPod, which currently lacks wireless functionality, Lee said. “We want it to be the best music experience you can have,” he said at a Citigroup investment conference that was broadcast over the Web. “You’ll see a lot of emphasis on community, a shared type of experience.”

  Yeah… “community” ... “wireless” .. Microsoft: buzzword central, creatively barren.

  By the time Zune is released it will probably be obsolete and MS will have a hard time to catch up with Apple. The expected Apple iPodPhone will overshadow everything else by using 3GSM instead of Wi-Fi. I imagine a portable device the size of a G5 iPod with which you can access iTunes, .Mac and do iChat with your friends in other iPodPhones or mac computers.

  Yeah, sad. The poster was the admin! and he was just pathetically trolling and flaming Apple users to get people to sign up to the board. Cynical, really, but also embarrassing, just like Dvorak.
