[quote author=“Zeke”][quote author=“Derrick”]I think this is the same author that wrote the supposed ‘review’ in the New York Post that appeared earlier on the same day as Mossberg and Pogue’s reviews.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003778367_ptmacc07.html

This article actually seems fair and balanced.  It’s about where my wife and I are concerning getting an iPhone.  Given the gaps to be filled, we’ve opted to wait for iPhone 2.0.

You’re kidding right? Fair and balanced? First, it’s not a closed system - anyone that’s researched AAPL knows they’re working on a developer-friendly method for writing apps - in the mean time, web-based apps are pretty robust for those that know what they’re doing - take a look at Google.

This author considers the lack of “openness” a show-stopper but doesn’t state what it is that the iPhone lacks that he requires. Sorry, that’s a crock IMO. Most phones have people wondering how to use 80% of the features.

Mother of all FUD articles here:

iPhone: Security Predators Salivating

“The biggest threat to the iPhone right now is its popularity,” says Neel Mehta, team lead of the advanced research group at IBM’s Internet Security Systems. “Everyone—for their own reasons or goals—will be looking for security flaws.” Real risk to users will start to climb the longer the iPhone is on the market.

So, according to the article, Don’t touch the iphone - it’s dangerous!!!!!!

And still they continue:-

iPhone lust fading fast

http://weblog.infoworld.com/daily/archives/2007/07/iphone_lust_fad.html

Wireless: After nine days of doing little other than living, breathing and dissecting an iPhone, Tom Yager calls it “a really sweet mobile device.” But, putting consumers and gadget freaks aside, for business users it’s little more than a $1975 iPod. Problems include price, the monthly payments, it’s overstated quality as a phone and mobile browser, the fact that it’s closed to third-party development. “I can’t recommend it. The unhappy fact is that for all the glamorous marketing and positioning, iPhone turns out to be the worst $1975 investment (iPhone plus two years minimum, mandatory service) you could make in mobile communications.” Related: iPhone spurs developer renaissance and Analyst predicts iPhone based on iPod nano.

groundwork for future FUD?

Perhaps the iPhone nano rumor was designed to increase public expectations so in a few months when Apple fails to deliver something they never really promised, the FUD finger-pointing at Apple can be unleashed.

Jury Still Out On iPhone Success, Says Verizon Executive

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200707111341DOWJONESDJONLINE000744_FORTUNE5.htm

He would say that, wouldn’t he.

smile

Also - notice how this has crept in:

“According to reports, nearly 1 million iPhones have been sold in its first 10 days. Apple has set a public target of selling 10 million devices by the end of the year.”

I thought Steve only promised 10 million by the end of NEXT year?

What a sad truth. We’d better keep our FUD-meters in perfect state. wink

Unfortunately this article seems to be getting a lot of coverage.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/23/technology/23iphone.html

Even my local talk radio station used it as a srpingboard to slag Apple off and perpetuate the “Security by Obscurity” Myth.

Don’t worry about it. It will have zero impact on AAPL. Seriously, there are more important things to be concerned about smile
