Hi guys.  Not sure where to put this great data, so started this thread.

It’s 9:55am Los Angeles time on Monday, 7/9.  iPods occupy the Top 9 positions on Amazon’s Best Selling MP3 player, with video Pods holding down #1,3 and 4.  Pretty darned good, considering the introduction of the iPhone!

Obviously the advertising and hype surrounding the iPhone is having a halo effect on iPod sales. Perhaps the cost of the iPhone is making the video iPod seem like a relative bargain?

I think some buyers wait to see what the iPhone looks like, even though they were never going to buy one. iPhone launch simply gives a clearer perspective to their iPod purchase.

I can hear the FUD makers now: “Consumers reject iPhone, buy cheaper iPods instead.”  lol

I look at Amazon ranking for MP3 player almost every day and for month, ipods had this kind of ranking. IPod video ranks first, then iPod nano mothen shuffle. All 15 models are in the top 25. This is going on since 4Q 2006.

not exactly related to ipods, but the Macbook Pro 15” was 5-7 days shipping since it was upgraded.  it currently stands at 7-10 days shipping.  Are there any known delays, or is this demand still that huge 1 month later?

I do not know the cause, but I can certainly confirm the availability problem. I am on hold for a new model 15 inch MBP, behind some other orders at the local Apple Store. You have about 24 hours to pick it up or lose your place in line. I sure hope that Apple is working to produce more units.

There was a display problem with some of the MacBooks. I can’t remember if it was the new Pros or the earlier released MacBooks.

i ask this specifically beacause the Macbook Pro made a brief appearance on the top sellers list during the week the iphone came out.  it was ahead of the macbook for a couple of days.  the shipping then was 5-7 days.  amazon listed as 2 weeks at that time.  i have not heard of anything other than the 200k initial order of led screen in late may/early june requested by apple.  i cannot find any reason for the delay except demand?

The first priority in the June quarter was filling education channel sales. I expect inventory to find balance ahead of the late-August/early-September back-to-school selling season. I’m sure demand remains very high.

Well, boys and girls, for what it’s worth (not much)...based partly on the above posts, I am now expecting more than $1.00 in EPS, for qtr ending June 30, 2007.

My recollection of the ship schedule was before WWDC, during WWDC and for most of the week following WWDC the shipping time was 1-3 days, or 4-6 weeks if you wanted the 160GB 7200rpm drive. Roughly 2 weeks after WWDC the ship time increased to 3-5 days with no delay if you order the faster drive. Now for a little over a week the shipping delay sits at 7-10 days, as you observed.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve checked for availability at upward of 5 Apple stores and they’ve only had 17” models in stock, some replying that the 15” LED models must be ordered online. I got lucky and found a 15” model in stock at one Apple Store this past Sunday and purchased it.

My hunch is all of the great press for this MacBook Pro has increased the demand for it and is causing the ship delay. I’ve owned Apple products since the Apple II days and find this one to be a winner!

The product is indeed a winner and supply may remain somewhat constrained through the back-to-school season starting in late August. Apple’s market penetration in the higher education market is unreal. smile

So is it possible that a very successful 15” MacBook Pro will measurably add to the earnings bottom line?

A bit OT, but is the new LED screen that much better than the previous screens?  If so, a lot of people looking to buy the 17” versions will jump in as soon as they become avaiable, probably in the next Quarter…

Yes. smile

High volume sales of the MacBook Pro would materially impact earnings.

Regarding the question of the screen, my discussion with employees at one Apple Store confirm that the “glossy” screen is very popular and thought to be significantly better by most customers.

Regarding the question regarding sales of the 15” MacBook Pro, they say the have not had one in the store for a couple of weeks.
