What kind of phone service do you use?

I have:
VoIP with ViaTalk (crap)
Landline with Qwest carrying my 7.1/896 DSL (Great!)
A crappy SonyEriccson cell phone that should never have been released in the US. Works great in Europe but (TMoblies) GSM isn’t as sophisticated here state side. (crap)

I would love to get an iPhone, but until it really steps up and fulfills its true destiny and they get a better provider, I will be watching all the complaints from the sidelines. TMobile is in the process of trying to make me very happy and not leave them. So I will see what they have to offer that will probably make me have to wait on an iPhone for a bit.

It’s all good.

Bessie wants one too. I told her to save her milk money.

I have the same problem with the iPhone as KevinOlive:  no ability to sync Notes with my computer.  Until that happens, I need to keep my Treo 650.  I use it as a phone and a Palm Pilot, but not for data/web use.  My carrier has been Cingular/ATT for years, with very good results generally, after a disaster with Sprint.  Land line is with a local fiber optic company, Surewest, which also supplies cable TV and ISP for a total of under $100/mo.

I hope Apple someday allows more than Web 2.0 apps to be built by others.  I cannot say that Apple’s iCal and Notes compare positively with programs like Memos or Datebook, and who will write stuff like TideTool (wonderful program showing tides around the US/Canada, with graphics), etc.?

But it’s only been a month; I can wait.

I switched from T-Mobile and a RAZR to AT&T and an iPhone. The switch was a life changing experience—in a good way—for me, and every day I have new revelations about how the iPhone is going to make me more productive.

I dumped my Palm Tungsten TE after making the switch. Although I’ve been a Palm user since pre-IR port Palm Pilot, I couldn’t justify replacing my aging TE because Palm wasn’t adding features that I found compelling enough to justify shelling out the cash.

The iPhone, however, changed that. It does most everything I want, and I’m betting the features it doesn’t have yet will show up before too long. The change also worked as a sort of diet for me: I shed a bit of weight by losing the RAZR, Palm, and iPod nano that I took everywhere I went.

Just a regular mobile phone for me

I’ve used a few “smartphones” in my days but have come back to the basic (as basic as you can get for a 2006 mobile phone) mobile phone.  In fact, I use my mobile phone as my main and only phone - no land line service.

I’ve always wanted Apple to produce a mobile device such as the iPhone but now that they have…I really don’t have a need for one.  Go figure roll eyes

My first smartphone was a combination of a regular and basic organizer and a cell phone that Sprint had out a few years ago - for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the phone or the model.  Regardless, it was very limited and didn’t work with any major software.

After my first wannabe smartphone I decided to step up to Samsung’s i330 phone which I loved very much.  I liked it more than the Treo 300 that was out around the same time.  Still..it was based on Palm’s software which proved limited when multi-media merged with cell phones.

Once I switched to T-mobile’s service I ended up with a Blackberry and quickly got tired of their platform and product.  A touch screen would help Blackberry out big time IMHO.

Now, I’m just using a regular mobile phone - currently Samsung’s thin t509 model.

Cheers.

I would buy an iPhone in a second but for two things:

1) My wife and I are on AT&T but share a contract that does not expire until New Year’s; I could switch now, but she would pay the penalty. evil grin

2) Reception at my house is dicey even though I’m less than a mile from the tower - that’s the only reason we keep a land line. The Cingular guy let me take home a pile of cell phones to see which one could hold a signal. Thankfully, some of the Motos and Nokias were adequate. I’ve read mixed reviews of the iPhone’s reception, and for now the cost of finding out for myself is pretty high.
