Here we are in 2007 and the iPhone has a calculator that harks back
to the first Bowmar four-banger calculator from 1971.

This is carrying simplicity too far.  Anyone else have thoughts on this?
I’d like to see an RPN option too.

Seems to me that the iPhone makes a a nice form factor for an advanced calculator, especially considering the contextual options for keys.

The reality is that few need an advanced calculator these days, but it wouldn’t hurt anything to have it there for those who do! If it adds to the utility without adding overhead or unnecessary complexity, seems tasty to me.

I take it you wouldn’t be for a nice complicated graphing calculator application ala TI’s TI-94?

calculator

Agreed, it would be helpful to be able to turn on an advanced calculator via the settings control panel.  At least to the level of a scientifc equivalent.  And it should be similar to how the Mac works:  Simple interface as default, advance as a choice for those that want.

That seems like something that could be added easily as a web app.
