[quote author=“sleepygeek”][quote author=“MacOz”]Could it be possible that in a week or two Apple would offer a $100 or so in-store credit to these early adopters. I’m sure they would not want to set a precedent but it would generate tremendous goodwill. Any views on this?
It won’t happen that way. You have to tread a narrow line if you are Apple. You can’t be generous, because it creates unreasonable expectations. I think you’re more likely to receive, for example, a smaller iTunes WiFi store credit as thanks for being a customer. No mention of the $599 iPhone involved.
I also don’t think it creates goodwill; rather it creates uncertainty. Apple makes a sales proposition, which is for the customer to accept or refuse. To offer compensation after the proposition has been accepted implies that the proposition was some kind of trick. It wasn’t. Every iPhone cost millions to develop and put into production. It’s for Apple to decide how that cost is divided among buyers of the product. If this unusual price cut diminishes future launch frenzy to buy new Apple products, I’m sure Apple will find that very helpful for supply management.
Well, am I surprised to be proven right. Never quite expected Apple to do it and so fast too. But then again I have faith in Apple and that they do the right thing.
I had the first gen Shuffle and after a year or so it was not playable or reformattable. So I thought I was up the creek but a couple of months later Apple came up with a software patch, (not once but twice), and I had and still have a working shuffle. There are many instances when Apple came through after the 1st year warranty expires. Another example would be the recent fix on eMacs - another machine I had.
Way to go, Apple and may the share price climb and climb.
