So what’s going on with the Apple TV?

I’ve heard virtually nothing from Apple and it isn’t really featured (though offered) in the online store. It appears to have lost the attention it first garnered.

Does it need an update and more features or is it a product for which its time has not come?

Give it time… Remember that rentals are coming and after all it is just Steve’s “hobby”.  big grin

A movie rental service via iTunes Store would give it a dramatic boost, especially if the rentals were the same new releases that video stores get. It would eliminate a lot of wasted energy, and the disappointment of not finding the title you want on the shelf. Not to mention the travel time back and forth in inclement weather.

Some serious games would help, but the processor and video chip in it isn’t capable of a lot of popular titles. If somehow the game could stream from the more powerful computer to the TV screen via AppleTV….

In order to dominate the market they’re targeting, they *must* include movie rentals and PVR capabilities.

Re: Wither Apple TV?

From catching up on the blogosphere this weekend, it seems that news of the movie rentals has directly triggered people to say things like, “wow, I finally will have a reason to go buy appleTV”. The second catalyst has apparently been the component video cable for iPods…same reaction from people, saying that their 720p content from itunes (sic) now gives them a reason for appleTv, or to at least get ready.
