[quote author=“macglenn”]Looked to me, the whole day was a set-up for this raid/test of support, especially holding AAPL flat for most of the day while the market rallied.  Recovering quickly and looks good.

Yep, on high volume an increase of $1.50 the last 10 minutes - at least something positive for today.  roll eyes

[quote author=“Plato”][quote author=“Play Ultimate”][quote author=“carbonat”]Anyhow, it is really depressing looking at AAPL going down and the indices continuing its ascent. cry

Apple has been trapped between 135-136 almost all day.

Not anymore frown

What the heck is going on????

Like I said, “Apple has been trapped between 135-136 almost all day”  roll eyes
BTW nice to see Apple hold at $133.75

[quote author=“Tommo_UK”][quote author=“mtjsTMO”][quote author=“Tommo_UK”]Buying to hold overnight @ 133.92. Stop at 133.42.

Very nice buy smile

Please don’t jinx it - tell me that tomorrow if we gap-up roll eyes.. its more a roll of the dice, less of a well-informed trade.

I’ve also bought, but calls smile he didn’t really went under 133.89, went over 134.4 and tried to go under again, failed ... and over 135.18 and out of time to test that one. so basicly it was a good buy, even if it doesn’t gap up, I don’t see it go bad.

Then again just by stating it, I probably made it go ... bad!

the opposite; small margin protection stop order triggered at $134.00.  Grrr.

OTOH, who knows, I might be grateful it happened tomorrow.

It happened to me with my SPX short. I placed a stop buy to cover significantly above my yesterday’s selling price of $1459. Guess it?. I had set the stop right at the top of today: $1472.2. Call it bad luck. Now I suppose that, to my desperation, tomorrow the indices will retrace beyond my earlier entry point.  evil

Some two-bit broker who wants to be seen to cover AAPL but can’t be bothered to do any real research initiates their new coverage of the stock at the equivalent of “Hold” - says stock is fairly valued.

06:15 EDT AAPL Apple-AAPL initiated with a Market Perform@MOKE
Morgan Keegan views shares as fairly valued. :theflyonthewall.com

.. and UBS raised AAPL from $175 - $182

So far I’m feeling good about having bout yesterday’s low just before the close - I probably won’t hold it very long though. AAPL doesn’t reward faith at the moment, just quick profits roll eyes

Follow up on the earlier note:
07:30   AAPL Apple: Initation details (135.49 )
As mentioned at 6:33, Morgan Keegan initiated AAPL with a Market Perform, as they believe AAPL is very well positioned in its core businesses and should continue to drive substantial long term growth as consumers continue to create and manage digital content. They say shares are currently fair valued, and see share gain in the computing mkt, ability to maintain high gross margins and a successful entry into the wireless mkt as keys for maintaining growth.

Erk!

07:44 EDT Earthquake measuring 7.9 hits Indonesia; has tsunami potential-Reuters is citing a Meteorological Official.

07:43   Putin dissolves Russian Government - AP
AP reports that President Vladimir Putin has dissolved the Russian government on the request of the prime minister, the Kremlin said Wednesday, a major political shakeup that comes less than three months before crucial parliamentary elections. In announcing the dissolution, Putin said “indeed the country is now approaching parliamentary elections, which will lead to presidential election. You may be right that we all must think about how to build the power structure so that it better corresponds to the pre-election period and prepares the country for the time after the parliamentary elections and after presidential elections.”

07:46   Structured finance funds hit by turmoil - FT
FT reports hedge funds investing in structured finance took another hit on Tuesday when it emerged that the flagship fund of London’s Wharton Asset Management had lost a quarter of its money in one month and a small Swiss-run fund had collapsed. Wharton’s Y2K Finance fund said on Tuesday it was suspending calculation of asset values, withdrawals and subscriptions, until December because of “current market turbulence”. Meanwhile, Avendis, which, like Wharton, specializes in structured finance products such as collateralized debt obligations, said its Enhanced Fixed Income fund had filed for liquidation in the Cayman Islands. On Tuesday Avendis said it was close a deal to restructure Golden Key. Avendis is in talks with an investment bank, thought to be BarCap, to supply long-term funding in place of its commercial paper programme.

Not a great start to Wednesday….
