more likely it is the Apple store down….

Do you guys expect any product changes or announcements? You are definitely the more experienced one, but I have to admit I’ve never seen AAPL up in PM just because the store is down - and in addition the overall futures are also down.

Plato, the upgrade was not really an upgrade but a small increase in price estimate… the rumour on the floor yesterday was there was a big apple position that had to sell before the bell. The action in the final 15 minutes seems to bear this out. So today PM action could be just a recovery….

A lot of stocks got hit in that raid. It wasn’t just AAPL.

Didn’t know about the rumor - thx for the update. UBS raised their estimated iPhone sales figures for FY08 to 10.77M.

One more thing…  smile

well store being down is certainly not the reason for Apple being up this just crossed Briefing.com is helping

AAPL Apple: iPhone not really hottest smartphone in July, but could be in Sept - AppleInsider (135.49 )

AppleInsider reports in a report issued last Tuesday, mkt research firm iSuppli said the iPhone accounted for 1.8% of all mobile-handset unit sales in July, outselling the BlackBerry (RIMM) series, the entire Palm (PALM) portfolio, and any individual Motorola (MOT), Nokia (NOK), Samsung or other smart phone model from a branded service provider. Presumably under scrutiny, iSuppli on Thursday issued a “clarification” regarding its earlier report, in which it backpedaled on just how popular the Apple handset was amongst consumers during its first full month on the mkt. “iSuppli’s sell-through research and the subsequent press release indicated that the iPhone outsold all smart phone models in July in the United States on an individual basis,” the co wrote. “While iSuppli stands by this analysis, it is important to note that iPhone’s retail sales did not exceed the combined retail sales of the entire BlackBerry line of smart phones in the United States in July.” In fact, when all sales of all BlackBerry models for the month of July were totaled together, they combined for approximately twice as many sales as the iPhone, iSuppli clarified. That would mean that Research in Motion’s BlackBerry garnered an approximate 3.6% share of the US mobile handset mkt compared to Apple’s 1.8%. But given its $200 price drop on the iPhone last week, Apple may be poised to build on that share in the immediate future, potentially trumping BlackBerry sales, if even for only a short time.

(above taken from newspaper quotation)

Apple didn’t say their goal was to be the best selling smart phone on the market.  They said their goal was 1% market share.  If they continue to sell at the current rate, sounds like they are exceeding that goal.

I interpreted the claim to be; the best selling individual model smart phone, but they are grouping all BB together to make them #1.

OMG!  Scott Wapner at CNBC’s Nasdaq wall actually mentioning today’s positive calls and outlook for Apple and not finding the one little piece of negative spin that might be out there, or otherwise completely missing the point of the positive news.  Will wonders never cease?  Did hell freeze over?  Has he been replaced by a pod person?  Has someone been spiking his coffee with some smart pills?

Absolutely hilarious.  T-Mobile and RIMM have suddenly “introduced much lower pricing,” for Blackberries, and they garner positive coverage.  Obviously, they are feeling the heat from the iPhone and AT&T’s usage plans (which were much, much lower priced than competitors—believe me, I know).  Now with the iphone price drop, Apple will continue to wrestle market share.  So instead of looking at RIMM’s news as the negative data that it is, the ANALysts will give it positive spin because RIMM is their little darling that can do no wrong.

09:45   RIMM Research In Motion: New pricing plan from T-Mobile USA likely catalyst for BlackBerry Internet Service - TD Newcrest (84.46 +1.44) -Update-

TD Newcrest notes that T-Mobile USA introduced a much lower pricing option for BlackBerry email service. The firm believes this is positive, as the introduction of this aggressive new BlackBerry price plan is likely to spur a competitive response from all of the other major US carriers. They think this could dramatically accelerate BlackBerry sales in the USA. They say adding a Blackberry Internet plan now becomes a no-brainer, similar to voicemail, and could drive more Blackberry device sales at T-Mobile.
