Our buddy that we love to hate, Scott Moritz at the Street.com, gets spanked by AppleInsider
The rumor, which was accompanied by claims that the handset would also include features like global positioning for navigation services (GPS), was reported Monday by The Street.com, which has little to no track record in predicting Apple’s future business moves.
[quote author=“quantman”][quote author=“Tommo_UK”]Verizon apparently announced they’ve now sold over 3 million $100 LG Chocolate phones in over a year.
Apparently that’s something to be proud of in an era when Apple can sell 1 million $600 phones in 74 days.
IMO, neither feat is anything to write home about (except maybe to one’s grandmother).
Sitting here watching the naked flame…no moths yet!
The US iPhone roll-out is virtually the most successful consumer electronics product launch in history, and certainly in the mobile phone business

By the way, we’re the moths
TOMMO, I hear what you are saying…....BUT, it did not meet my expectations (or yours, if you were honest with yourself, IMO).
We ALL expected more…just look at your posts, or mine from the first week of July!
Anyway, I am beyond that now, due to great Mac sales momentum and the new iPod line-up for the holidays. IMO, the iPhone business is going to take some more time - perhaps another 9-12 months, and 2 more iPhone model iterations. I have resigned myself to this!
the article is in german and they seem quite sure sj will be in berlin . . . it also states that t-mobile will be selling the iphone in germany, austria, holland, hungary and croatia . . .
[quote author=“the-irish-guy”]steve jobs in berlin tomorrow.

I will be so pissed off if Jobs has managed to negotiate some kind of pan-European rate plan including data across borders with T-mobile, only to shaft us in the UK with having to use a different network in the form of O2.. so that US readers understand, just because the same network operates in different countries has NOT meant that there are no roaming charges.. they each treat their territory as their own jealously guarded domain, and you get charged international roaming fees in Holland on t-mobile even if you have a German T-mobile account.
That’s how its been thus far anyway. Lets see if AAPL manages to break the mold.

Well T Apple have been calling the important shots so far and these data rates are VERY important to SJ and company. More important than voice rates imo
I like this story which shows that running OSX on Intel’s latest and greatest multi-core chips is seen as a technical achievement for the processor and a good benchmark to judge its success. How times change
excerpt:
IDF Intel has booted Apple’s Mac OS X operating system on its next-generation 45nm microarchitecture, ‘Nehalem’, the chip giant’s CEO, Paul Otellini, mentioned at IDF this morning. Nehalem is due to debut next year, around 12 months after the first 45nm Core 2 chips, based on the ‘Penryn’ architecture, arrive. Penryn’s the focus at IDF, but Otellini did let a few new Nehalem details slip out.
“Apple will deliver the next version of the iPhone early next year,” Scott Moritz reports for TheStreet.com.
“A faster third-generation, or 3G, iPhone will be available sometime in the first quarter, say people familiar with the production plans,” Moritz reports. “The new iPhone should help quiet critics who were unimpressed by the 2.5G EDGE technology the first version used.”
Moritz reports, “The new 3G iPhone is expected to include features like global positioning for navigation services.”
A naked attempt to stall iPhone sales after predicting an iPhone marketing failure. I wonder how much Moritz receives from M$ in compensation for all of his FUD.

He probably just gets a free LG Chocolate and a discounted talk plan from Verizon, and is grateful for it

I think many of the “expectations” were really unrealistic and it’s unfair to judge the success of the launch based on them. Bottom line, it WAS a successful launch and 1M iPhones sold in 74 days IS something to write home about. I’m proud to be an iPhone early adopter and AAPL shareholder.

Apple’s (AAPL - Cramer’s Take - Stockpickr) outlook has grown even rosier on iPhone sales this year.
The Cupertino, Calif., tech shop has now prepared plans to nearly double its iPhone production in the fourth quarter, say people familiar with the company. The plan calls for the manufacture of 2.7 million iPhones next quarter, up from the 1.54 million originally targeted, these people say…..
