[quote author=“renegate”]Tarifs will only be published on November 9 - strange?

No point in giving competition time to adjust their prices.

[quote author=“renegate”]Edge download speed quoted by T-Mobile as 222kb - 100% coverage by year-end

That’s what it felt like I was getting in Central London the other day when I was out and about. This hysteria over 3G is totally over the top. If they can get EDGE rolled out properly, its no problem - no problem at all.

Here is a rundown of the event including questions and a summary, but in German:
macnews.de
And   here is the iPhone page of T-Mobil.

Edge speed should be 222KB for download half of it for upload.

EDIT:
Here is the ipHone page of Apple Germany. At the end it says you can buy it online at the German Apple Store, but the store does not have it. So I guess it is really available only at T-Mobile stores.

Maybe the other thing that this strategy reflects is the steady increase of areas covered by WiFi. Given that both O2 and T-Mobile are offering free wifi access it would be the best way of using the iphone by far. And certainly in most urban centres there is now reasonable coverage.

Asked about a GPS and iPhone, SJ said ‘may be later’, he also said Google Maps is the best system in the world and he’d love to have it on the iPhone, but for that to happen he thinks we need even smaller chips. Well SJ, come on you can do it, that’s a small challenge for you!  smile

Great news!

“Oh its not real access though.. its through a web browser,” the RIMM-a-holics will fart.

Re: Jobs says Apple will fight iPhone unlock hacking

[quote author=“sleepygeek”]From an investors viewpoint, I am quite sure that unlocked phones will not be a significant percentage of the installed base for a year or two.

From a Gizmondo piece:

Erica at TUAW does some quick and dirty math on how many iPhone hackers are out there. Based on 60k SSH downloads, and that being a fraction of those who hack, she guesses 10-20% of all Apple phone users are doing some sort of unofficial cha cha with unofficial apps.

My estimate would be 1-2% actually unlocked. (i.e. 10-20,000 unlocked iPhones). I think there is a lot of downloading by people who fear the tools may disappear from the web, and by people who never take the next step. There is also hacking by those who never actually terminate their AT&T contract (to install third party apps).

Cody Willard is to help anchor the new FOX Business channel:

Cody Willard
The Next Chapter
9/19/2007 12:17 PM EDT
You might have seen the news yesterday that I’ve accepted a position as an anchor at the soon-to-be-launched FOX Business Network. I wrote last week that I was going to get deadly serious about my media career. I meant it.

I’m ambivalent towards Willard as I feel he’s made some lousy judgement calls (sp with regard to AAPL over the options affair) but he “gets” the digital economy like no other news anchor/reporter on any of the existing channels and should at least prove to be a well-informed talking head in an industry which is devoid of any intelligent analysis. Good luck to him!

Just shows he couldn’t cut it in the analysis world. I never thought highly of him as his calls seems to be more “piling on” than based on original thought.

The latest edition of the iPod nano has different components that make the device significantly cheaper for Apple (AAPL) to make, according to research firm iSuppli, which took the iPod apart.

That means bigger margins for Apple!  big grin
