Not exactly breaking news but important

Wall Street Journal para lead this morning

Technology stocks are posting big gains after years of being scoffed at by the market. Three of the best-known tech stocks—Google, Apple and Research in Motion—finished at all-time highs Tuesday. And the tech-dominated Nasdaq-100 index is now up 18% so far this year, reaching its highest level since February 2001. Some money managers say the recent rally is just the beginning.

Here is my take on the matter, posted on the IV board.

This story is nothing but a rehash of the story from days ago with no updates, yet the San Jose Mercury News seems to be re-issuing it as an “update” and thus getting all the newswires to re-iterate the story. Pure unadulterated whoring for hits.

Apple adds two new NBC series to iTunes Store

Sep. 26, 2007 [iPod lounge article]

Despite its previous announcement that it would not offer any of NBC’s fall lineup, Apple has added two new fall series, Chuck and Jouneyman, to the iTunes Store, as both individual episodes and season passes. A Season Pass for Chuck runs $39.99, while Journeyman eschews the Season Pass for a “Buy All Episodes” option. Gizmodo reports that the Season Pass has 13 episodes, which might indicate that the full season will be finished before the December contract deadline.

Apple has decided to hide its numbers further.

Now on the Apple Store Best Sellers are no longer listed in order but rather category.  This makes it harder to tell how well a product is selling.

I can not believe how secretive this company is. roll eyes

i really wanted to see how the iPhone was doing overall.  It moved from 9th place to 4th after the price drop.  Now it must have dropped again so Apple wanted to hide it.

The Newton was a revolutionary product for it’s time. The problem was that people weren’t ready for the product. I would love to see the resurgence of the Newton brand in a UMPC. Apple has the technology now to truly make the Newton a fantastic tool. With Palm about to take it’s last breath, a new product could step in. Not everyone who needs a PDA needs a phone.

The PDA rumor linked above is terribly exciting. A fifth business leg for Apple would launch the company beyond what I can even imagine—especially since it’s based on OS X and thus not a huge stretch/gamble for Apple given the iPhone and the touch. I can see hospitals and clinics (among others) clamoring to buy such a device in ridiculously high quantities.

Apple is simply the most innovative company in the world and its stock price will reflect this fact for years to come.

Wouldn’t it be better if Apple just added the PDA features to iPhone?  All useful PDAs are also phones these days.  Who wants to carry an iPhone, an Apple PDA, AND an iPod?

I second this idea. I see the touchPod or iPhone having the features to become a PDA, not just communications devices.
