TomTom formalise offer for TeleAtlas. Could someone else still beat them to it now that the stakes have been raised? If I were Microsoft or GOOG, I’d be getting out my chequebook right now.

TomTom reacts to Nokia—formalizes offer for Tele Atlas

Just one day after Nokia offered $8 billion for NAVTEQ, TomTom is in the news with a formal offer for Tele Atlas. Of course, TomTom had already announced their intent to offer Ђ21.25 per share (about $2.56 billion) for the map maker back in July—the same amount tendered today. Back then the offer represented a sweet 32% premium over the average Tele Atlas share price. However, Tele Atlas is now trading above the offer price thanks to speculation caused by the Nokia deal. We say hold out for more Tele Atlas. Just hint at discussions with Nokia or Garmin and we’re pretty sure TomTom will up the ante.

[quote author=“MaCroissant”]Thanks carbonat,

Do you think that relatively speaking, TomTom is better valued (PE wise, etc…)?

I must look into that.

Edit:

According to MarketWatch GRMN is highly priced than TOM. GRMN P/E is 35.63 and TOM P/E is 28.24

Microsoft is now rumoured to be looking into buying Garmin.

Is there anybody except Apple and Google that Microsoft isn’t rumoured to be trying to buy these days? lol

Thanks carb for the info on respective PE!

Garmin bulls believe in the company’s ability to use its better know-how in the average consumer market. Though I believe this is true, why should I spend time looking at sweet looking GRMN standing at the bar when I have my top-model AAPL sitting on my lap? wink
