[quote author=“Constable Odo”] It’s almost like the MacPro line is an afterthought nowadays with everything iPhone this and iPod that.

C’mon Apple, return to your roots.

Patience. smile

One innovative step at a time. There’s Leopard to release then new hardware.

Re: Buying a new Mac

[quote author=“ctopher”][quote author=“gopher”]... no one Mac has been less reliable than the others.

Obviously they never owned a Powerbook 5300.

I did! Reliability was great—but it was painfully slow. Most software I had at the time was still 68k native so my 100MHz PowerBook 5300c felt about the same as my 33MHz Performa 630. smile

Actually the least reliable Macs were the PowerMac 6300 - 6360, 62xx, 5400, 5300 and Performa of same numbers. Apple released a patch for these, but the patch no longer fixed the problem after 7 years, and without it kept those Macs stuck at 7.5.5 which otherwise could have run 9.1.

[quote author=“JimDE”]If you can hold out you may want to wait for MacWorld in Jan. There’s a good possibility of new Intel 45 NM chips being announced, maybe BluRay, if you want a Mac Pro, the Cinema Displays are way overdue for a refresh.  smile. Plus Leopard may be up to 10.5.1 or .2 by then.

Why I was holding out drool

Saw this about slimline Blu-Ray superdrives . If indeed Apple starts including such hardware in 2008 products, we’ll see more widespread adoption and falling drive prices. Then again, the iLife intro had Uncle Steve declaring the DVD to be dead, so he’ll have to change his tune. Yes, hard drives are faster and cost less per MB. But a disk is just so - convenient.

I wrote this in “Topic: AAPL Breaking News and Events”

...But right now I am reading “When to Buy a new Desktop?” and, if I was lost before this rumors, how do you think I feel before?.
You said there: best machine you can buy is the wright machine for you. I agree, is what I do on G# generation, and it was not cheap. Now, I am lost in that Intel F****gCore+GraphicProcessorsForChoose maze!: have no references in my architecture world… some ideas?...

Do you know some one who is using latest MacPros for architectural/furniture/design-of-pieces purposes software? Could you give me someoneÒ‘s configurations/performace insight?
I need to change my actual iMacG5+PowerBookG4+21"MacDisplay hardware, and I can not choose between the best MacBookPro and a middle range MacPro (BTW: IÒ‘m the only one MacUSER at my own studio roll eyes We use ArchiCAD+ArtlantisRENDER, so we are not outsiders. roll eyes  roll eyes )

Omacvi, you are not alone..
