AMZN over $95 RIMM back off its high a bit.. GOOG stuck around $600, and AAPL precisely tagged $165. Funny.. this round number pinning action is something you’d expected during options expirations, not a Monday morning.

The nay sayers on TV are still shrilling about recession, economic collapse, etc etc, but they’re finding it hard to argue with ongoing record earnings. If this earnings season is a strong one, expect a blow-off rally into Christmas.

Wasn’t it just a week ago that folks here were talking about shorting AAPL if it hit 160 before earnings.  roll eyes  wink

Daaahling, shorting $160 is just so last week lol

Now at $170/175 pre-earnings you’ll get the world+mother shorting into the call.. which may be a good thing, if AAPL can finally deliver a half-decent forward guidance number after reporting a blow-out quarter.

That’s a big IF though.

To be honest, if AAPL falls under $159-160 from here, you’ll also see a lot of shorting. No big money will be shorting AAPL here though, not when RIMM has shown the potential to scale such loft heights and squeeze the shorts to death. $160 - 175 is no-man’s land for shorts - its too much of a gamble.

Hmmm. Looks like its only aapl and rimm keeping the nasdaq positive at the mo, and it looks like the momentum is against them. Interesting day.

Read this topic immediately big grin . Doug Kass says he wants in on AAPL. What made him change his mind after nay-saying the stock from $40 to $160?

Buying an iPhone.

Rock on!

[quote author=“omacvi”]...................  I recall many predicted close to 2 million macs and we were well below that.

Huh?  What did I miss over the weekend while out in the swamp trying in vain to capture the right light on my CMOS sensors?

Heading back down to the top of the trading channel after the morning’s break-out. If 163.20 - 163.40 doesn’t hold, then I think the gap-up open gets filled.

I was referring to the previous quarter.  Apple shipped 1.7 million macs while a few were hoping for 1.9 million.

I think if we hit 2.1 million this quarter then apple truly has reached a tipping point where the only slow down is not opening enough stores or building enough macs to meet demand.

The lack of MacBooks Pro this past summer comes to mind.

Speaking of dumbass Moritz - did you see his skit on the street.com about leopard?  You’d think you were watching a skit of Saturday Night Live (at least SNL is funny).

[quote author=“Tommo_UK”]Anyhoo.. a $2 PM pop for AAPL.. right at key resistance IMO at the top of a trading channel. A breakout from here will probably lead to about $166.50 in short order.

$166.50 for the close anyone? smile
