Morgan Stanley raises target

Oct 12 (Reuters) -
APPLE INC (AAPL,Trade)
Current Prior Price target $180 $150
—Morgan Stanley said the computer maker’s iPhone will drive more ancillary revenue than it previously modeled.
—The brokerage, which maintained its “overweight” rating, said it continues to believe Street estimates understate the true operating margin potential of Apple’s business.
—Morgan Stanley said in the longer-term, Leopard operating system launch, increased store revenue, AT&T payments and unit scale/accessories sales on a much larger installed base are all likely to drive margins higher. (Reporting by Sreerupa Mitra in Bangalore)

The most interesting thing to me in this report is her estimate for ‘08 Mac shipments of 9.3MM.  This is approximately 35% growth over ‘07, and if accurate is very bullish.

Here’s one way to spin the Al Gore story back toward Apple:

d*ckhead Scott Moritz is just as bad on video as he is in writing . . . it makes him obviously uncomfortable to say something positive about apple.

apple patent for pressure sensitive touchscreen?

excerpt:
“Background: This invention relates generally to electronic system input and output devices and, more particularly, to a display unit (output) that detects a user’s touch and the force of the touch (input). “

edit: this is dated october 11, 2007. i am not so sure if this refers to an older patent - apologies if this is so . . . maybe sleepygeek or someone else can clarify.

It wasn’t rocket science for me to have predicted this back when the iPhone was first announced, but what I do predict, that I don’t think anyone else has, is that user-created widgets will be coming to the iPhone courtesy of Leopard.

in Safari, in Leopard, you can “clip” sections of a web page and turn it into a widget. I predicted that you will be able to specially format these for use on the iPhone, which will offer to sync your widgets - even the user-created ones from your Mac to your iPhone.

What this will mean is that any web page (or section of a web page) that you want to keep track of will be instantly available without having to go through safari, from a widget browser selected from the iPhone’s home screen.

i expect this could be quite a “big deal” smile
