Tommo’s great analysis of the RIMM vs. iPhone issue and what the heck is wrong with wall street now has

487 Diggs!

And now the almost famous Fake Gene Munster Blog has it up, with an appropriate Union Jack!

What is next? Book Deals? TV Spots?  bug eyed

and to think, we all knew him back when.

Awesome!  As a relative newbie investor, I find Tommo’s comments to be very insightful and helpful to see the mindset of a seasoned investor. Thanks Tommo for all your contributions.

What’s really nice is that Tommo is getting some light shed (publicly) on comparison issues between the valuation of RIMM vs. AAPL. Each will be successful, but it’s time people realize some of the things that aren’t otherwise out there in the public. Tommo’s metrics of both companies speaks volumes and with a mention in Fake Gene’s blog, more and more people will start to realize there is even more to the AAPL story.

I went to great lengths to point out that I wasn’t bashing the Blackberry or RIMM, but was merely pointing out the mistaken analysis of RIMM’s results and the thesis that the iPhone wasn’t impacting consumer Blackberry sales.

I’m just glad its causing some people to think and question the numbers. I wasn’t RIMM bashing but media-bashing, and simultaneously pointing out the potential for exponential iPhone sales growth coinciding with what could possibly mark the rapid arrival of a top in sales growth (note: not sales, but sales growth) for the Blackberry unless RIM can add considerable weight to their consumer offerings - which I also made clear is something they are clearly aiming to do.

I’m amazed my post could be so misconstrued (reading the 188 comments) and miscast - but then again, that was the whole point of the post: to point out how misconstrued and miscast the numbers and facts are. The RIMMinals’ comments merely serve to prove my point that hyperbole drives RIMM’s stock price, which currently bakes in a 42% rise in earnings next year, against 18% in AAPL.

I think RIMM has quite a bit further to run, but I know which has the greatest potential for consistent earnings surprises next year.

I too thought this when I read though the Digg comments. Most of the people posting seemed to me to be falling into the old fanboy category and they totally totally missed the point of Tommo’s post. But it is typical Digg behavior.

At least we can say we knew Tommo during his Digg’s 15 minutes of fame.

We will know the impact of his comments.  I have not read any of those responding, but if they are so negative against aapl then we should see RIMM stock go up another 5 points and aapl go down.

I suspect the smart people will start dumping rimm and start buying aapl come Monday.

This will be an interesting experiment to see if the blog community can have any impact on stocks.

I seriously doubt my post will have (or even should have) any impact on RIMM. Its too early to bail out on the stock. I was just pointing out that of the two stocks, AAPL has more potential at this point. More to the point, I’d just like people to pause and think before they slavishly swallow the BS that RIMM’s management and its 20%-owning hedge fund buddies and their pet media whores feed them, that consumer Blackberry sales are somehow immune from being at all impacted by the arrival of the iPhone.

I think what people fail to connect with Tommo’s post is the revenue sharing with the telcos.  This is the long term continued revenue that has RIMM valued at 60B.  RIMM has confirmed revenue sharing, while AAPL has not disclosed this to the public.  The analysts cannot put a number (future earnings) on something the company has not confirmed.  The general public and apparently the digg community have not picked up on this.  They are simply focusing on the number of phones.  When we see this confirmed by T and/or AAPL they will be able to connect RIMM and AAPL and that is what will add 60B to AAPL by the end of 2008.

As I read Tommo’s reply to the Diggers I about fell over laughing… Classic.

Wow - what an incredible number of posts from teenagers with one hand on the keyboard and another down their trousers while they jerk off. For the fifth time, if you read the post, you’ll see that:

1) It doesn’t criticise the Blackberry

2) It doesn’t criticise RIM

3) It criticises the media’s analysis of the RIMM earnings numbers last week

4) It suggests the Blackberry may find its growth constrained in the consumer market, and how that could impact the stock.

To the 95% of posters here more interested in mentally masturbating about their iPhone hate, quite what part of points 1 through 4 don’t you understand? What a bunch of hysterical drama queens.

Personally I don’t think he needs to respond.

Let history vindicate us.  We will link his story in 10 months and then do some interesting comparing between where the iPhone is in sales vs the Blackberry sales numbers. lol

I talked to a friend yesterday and he said that most major cities in Canada are wi-fi established for free.  I think Apple can sell a million phones there alone next year. Can you imagine when it is available to the Far East and India.

The iPhone is reportedly selling for $1300 unlocked in China.

The potential here is huge.
