There may be some patent problems with voice recognition. I know there are companies that offer it for any cell phone, but I’m not sure how restrictive their patents may be. Apple would need to develop their own technology. The demos I’ve seen (perhaps you’ve seen them too) offer not only voice dialing — by saying the name of the person you want to call — but also e-mail dictation.

OS X has had voice recognition for years.. and Mac OS 9 before that. No sweat. Its already developed
It’s never had dictation style VR (such as iListen offers). But it wouldn’t take much to add voice dialing (attaching a phone number to a simple phrase). I think there would be a lot more features for the iPhone if they were to switch to the new Intel mobile chips.

I really don’t think that’s (Intel) got anything to do with it. OSX is effectively platform agnostic now. My point was that OS X is perfectly capable of voice recognition right now, and I am sure it is already up and running in Apple’s skunkworks.
Another Q for u early iphone owners. I’m getting hyped up for the UK launch of the iPhone in a months time….and thinking about whether to get a case or not for the phone.
With my ipods i have kept them naked, because i love the materials they’re made from, i wondered if anybody is ‘going commando’ with the iPhone and how it lives alongside the coins etc in your pocket.
if i did get a case it would be something to protect it just while in pocket and easy to slide the phone out when in use.

any suggestions? anybody got a vaja case?
Cheers,
M
No “case” for me, though I bought a very small leather purse which is perfectly sized for the iPhone, headphones and ID, credit card and a few dollars. So, in a way, I guess that qualifies as a case.
My DH bought a case for his, can’t remember the brand…it’s black leather, fairly plain and simple. I think he likes it, but has to take the iPhone out of the case to charge it.
cheers guys - only 4 weeks to go sold $4k worth of AAPL at around $67 to go shopping for iMac (hopefully before end of month when leopard arrives) - i’ve been planning the switch from PC for about 18 months…can’t wait! and then iPhone on 9th Nov
hoping for a dip before holiday season - happy to be buying my toys, trying not to think what that money would do if it was still in the stock over the holidays - but hey, its been a great couple of years in APPL
Actually here’s a q for any UK investors - my investment is pretty small at Ј10K, i do it in a tax free ISA and trade in ACP (london listing of AAPL) is there any disadvantage to trading in ACP over AAPL?

Yes, if you trade, not so much if you buy and hold. Huge 2% spread, no volume ( 441 yesterday vs main market 35 million ), dealing charges? wrong currency? Instead of APC in an ISA, consider spread betting at CMC (no tax, 0.1% spread which includes dealing charges, 5% margin). Spread bet also hedges dollar/sterling automatically, which you may like. While AAPL is growing fast, instead of buy and hold Ј10k of AAPL in an ISA, I’d be very comfortable with buy and hold Ј20K of AAPL in a CMC spread bet account with, say, Ј5k deposited, keeping Ј5k in reserve for an unlikely 25% pullback in AAPL. Note there are interest charges to pay on the implied borrowed money with spread bet, and you currently must bet in units of Ј16730 (“one pound a point”).
i mainly buy and hold, but as my experience is growing, i’m looking to try and captalise on dips like that in mid aug and early sep. i’ve traded more in the last 8 months than the year before.. Could you recommend a good cfd provider and maybe somewhere i can read up on cfds?
thanks for your advice

I actually bought a Belkin case with the phone and used it about three days for fear of damaging my new toy. Then my , just put it in your pocket side came out and been without since. The face won’t scratch with change or keys and I have even started putting the phone in my back pocket in my jeans. Watch the German chick beat the crap out of an iphone. This is one strong, durable, and reliable phone.

When I first got my iPhone, I was in a quandary as to what I should carry it in and at the time there where very few options for carrying cases. I then realized that I had a unused iPod mini slip case from a purchase years ago that was a perfect fit for the Iphone. I put the cleaning cloth that came with the iPhone inside the slip case so that every time it goes in the case, the front glass surface gets a cleaning.
