Here we go. The comments, claims and counter claims concerning iPhone sales will come fast and furious starting Monday morning in the UK and Germany. I’m setting this up as a sticky topic through Monday.

Please post your comments and observations on the iPhone rollout in this topic.

Edited to change topic type to normal.

I expect Carphone Warehouse sold around 8000 over the weekend - way beneath their expectations, chiefly because their payment systems crashed for several hours precisely as the iPhone was lauched, almost to the minute, and they crashed again on Saturday.

CPW were expecting to sell 10K on Friday alone, with that number again over the weekend. I think CPW completely fucked up, and they’re screaming furious about it. Coupled with slightly lower than expected turnout, and the biggest hit to weekend sales stems from CPW’s shortfall.

On the other hand, I think O2 did extremely well, surpassing their own expectations, and sold around 14,000

I think Apple Stores (retail) sold around 4000 in total over all 12 stores.

.. and finally I think on-line Apple Store sales totalled about 4000.

My estimate for this weekend’s UK sales: 30,000 - probably a lot better than most people are estimating, and what I consider to be extremely strong.

What I’m finding interesting is that with all of the media attention paid to the UK and Germany roll out of the iPhone, dozens of publications are rehashing the same tired old stories with no Sunday coverage of iPhone sales in either country.

THey are probably waiting for some Jackass like Moritz to write a completely garbage negative piece on AAPL so they can just add their name to the bottom of it and change the title…...of course adding all sorts of bad info citing “unnamed sources” roll eyes

There must be very many people like me who are waiting for Macworld in January for the second iteration of the iphone.  We know there is already a 16Gb module in the ipod touch.  In practical terms if you are switching providers and want to keep your number, you have to wait a month in the UK anyway.

By the way, O2 released a statement saying iPhone sales surpassed their best expectations, and that it is their best-selling phone at-launch, ever.

Its actually about a week these days, often as little as 5 days.

Don’t you have to give a month’s notice to leave your contract and get a PAC code?  That’s what Vodaphone told me I had to do, even though I have been out of contract with them for months.

No, you can get a PAC code straight away, and if they tell you otherwise they are lying. You will still have to pay up to the end of your current month, of course, but you can get the PAC code pretty much immediately.

Thanks.  That’s great news.

If 30K is indeed the number, I feel that’s a relatively poor showing.  US sales I believe were 270K for the 3 day weekend launch (Friday night to Sunday).  This is just over 1/10 that.  With the market having a hissy fit as it is and this fairly lackluster UK/Germany projected debut, expect AAPL to get wacked on Tuesday.

Most mainland retailers aren’t open on Sundays (at least t-mobile shops aren’t) smile

Usual anti-Apple British press talking about the iPhone Launch “failure”. Jack Schofield in the Guardian even goes so far as to quote Andrew Orlowski from The Register but doesn’t actually get to spell his name correctly. smile

Luckily we now have Stephen Fry writing for the Guardian to offset some of Schofield’s drivel.

Thank you. smile

Here in the US I’m used to gas (petro) stations and supermarkets being open 24/7 and all retail chains (including cell service providers) being open on Sunday even if for no more than 8 or 9 hours. I didn’t factor into the equation EU territories in which it’s customary for retail stores to be closed on Sundays.

Not only customary but obliged by law in some states as a measure to protect small only-one-store business wink

I don’t believe a word of it, but the Sunday Mirror says

Tills ring as 70,000 iPhones are sold
