According to this URL, the 867 MHz G4 can be overclocked to 1 GHz.  Anyone with a shiney new PowerMac G4 care to try and let us know how it works out?

(Seriously, though, you can damage your computer if you don’t know what you’re doing so if you arne’t sure then don’t even think about it.)

To quote The Dangerous Brothers (now there’s an obscure reference):

Kiddies, do not try this at home. Because it hurts like buggery!

Seriously, this falls into the category of something you can do but really shouldn’t do, like bathing in sulfuric acid or French-kissing a rattlesnake.

First, it requires a good amount of manual dexterity.

Second, you void your warranty.

Third, you can fry your MoBo and/or chip, at which point you’re left with a $2400 paperweight/boat anchor.

Fourth, there’s a reason that these chips are not marketed/sold above 1GHz: very few would pass the test of running flawlessly at that speed. In fact, not all would run that way at 867MHz, hence the 800MHz and 733 MHz chips.

Fifth, if you do succeed, you will brag and announce it on these boards (admit it, you would), at which point someone would break into your place and steal it.

Sixth, there is no point #6.

Seventh, no pootahs.
