To be honest I also drink coke and no Pepsi, can’t stand it. But then again I have VPC but rarely use it, so my experience with PCs is limited, but now comes the nice part, everyone thinks that I know lots on computers, just b/c I’ve used Macs 8 years. Hell I know a handfull of DOS commands and about the same number of Unix ones. My heart lies with Apple and the Mac. But then again most ppl in this tiny country don’t know what a Mac is and think all PCs are equal. Thank heavens there are other ppl out there, ppl who know how it is to own a Mac. Simply the best computer around.

As my uncle would say, “ya damned skippy!”

Whatever THATS means…

Skippy is the name an immigrant Australian will use for a European Australian.  So I’m the damned Skippy round here, thankyou very much. icon_wink.gif

Skippy was also the name of a TV show in the 70’s about the thrilling adventures of a kid and his pet kangaroo.  The kangaroo would make little ‘tsk-tsk’ noises in order to tell him what was going on.

“Tsk-tsk-tsk…”
“What’s that, Skippy?  There’s an escaped prisoner camping down by the creek?!”
“Tsk-tsk-tsk-sk!!” *hops away*

Anyway.

I think this snip from the article is much better than the Coke one:

“Apple represents 3 percent of U.S. computer sales and Porsche a measly 0.2% of the U.S. car market,” he writes. “Ah, but what a two-tenths of a percent it is: the richest of the rich, willing to pay $40,000 for a base model Boxter (sic) and $100,000 or more for a speedy 911. Sadly, as a group we Mac enthusiasts are not so financially well endowed. Still, the market we represent deserves the same respect as Porsche’s.”

Mmm, performance automobiles… I like it.

Given Apple’s worldwide market share and ‘hipness’ I would say they are more like Irn Bru, Scotland’s other national drink, or Tango.

See stuff here if you aren’t familiar with these drinks and their marketing campaigns.

I really don’t want to think I am using a machine made by a company like Pepsi Co.  Do you remember Sculley - he came from Pepsi didn’t he?  Didn’t like him.

Sounds a tad like Lassy, Raena.

Reminds me of a topic for The Lounge.

Sculley’s biggest crime was not being a pinhead, it was in deciding that Jobs’ issues somehow made him a problem for Apple.  Subtract my friend Jean-Louise, add in Jobs, and Sculley’s reign turns into a much different one.

Well, having once lived in the South for many years (a baker’s decade in the vicinity of that cesspool of tourism, Myrtle Beach), I have a couple of observations about this “Apple/Pepsi to MS/Coke” analogy….

One:  Pepsi is traditionally marketed in that area as “Pride of the Carolinas”—which for me adequately explains Pepsi as no other slogan can.  (I’m a Coke drinker, can ya tell?)

Two:  There’s a much hipper softdrink to compare Apple to.  It’s called Cheerwine, and alas, it is only available in the South.  Or online.  I actually shelled out $20 (shipping included) for a case of the stuff to be delivered to me here in Minnesota.

How exactly these two observations are relevant to the whole discussion at hand is still a bit beyond me, save for the fact that if Apple were a softdrink, it would most DEFINITELY be Cheerwine. =)
