Came across this today.  Not surprised or worried by the “announcement” but the stock photography caught my eye.  Notice the computers and keyboard in the top left photo. I believe they are Macs.  LCs or something.  But then scroll down and notice the most definitely one button Apple mouse.
I suppose this may be a Mac sighting but given then nature of the story I thought I’d post it here.

I read about it on /. yesterday. Both the KDE browser Konquerer and IE have this problem. The main difference: A patch for Konquerer was made in 97 minutes. Unlike MS where you’ll have to wait 3 months for a patch, or ‘Service Pack’ as those Redmond dudes call it.

97 Minutes, ain’t Open Source great evil grin .

Holy crap. That’s just amazing. smile I had heard that Konqueror was affected, didn’t hear that it was fixed so fast. Bravo to KDE (or whoever submitted the patch).

I think this is the part that gets me the most.

“Microsoft criticized Benham for not contacting Microsoft first when he discovered the problem, and instead posting it on the Internet.”

Maybe if all of these things were posted on the net M$ would pick up the pace.  Who knows how long it takes them to fix the problem when they are the only ones notified.

It’s not IE, it’s every Windows release since WinNT

This was reported on a lot of tech sites. The flaw found in the ssl in IE isn’t a minor problem in Win IE, it’s a bughole that has been part of every Windows system since Win NT (NT, 98, ME, 2K and XP). So instead of patching the app, MS will have to patch the whole OS because of this. One weird thing though, MS claims that even though it’s a system wide bug, it only affacts IE. But if you use ssh in Win2K, I thought you’d be using ssl as well.

Just imagine, a bug of this kind part of the most sold OS in the last 6 years and until NOW no one noticed it.
